In this Japanese Learning Guide article, I'm going to take a little break from all the grammar and language itself and hopefully inspire you learn by giving you my top five fantastic reasons to learn Japanese. 1. Bilingual Career Opportunities The first great reason to learn Japanese is to put yourself in a position to embark on an exciting Japanese/English bilingual career. Japan has the second largest economy in the world, and dominates the global market with brands like Sony, Honda, Nintendo, Toyota, and many others. Japan also has a rapidly aging population, which means that in the coming years, there is expected to be an increasing shortage of labor in Japan. This means more job opportunities for foreigners. Adding the ability to speak Japanese fluently to your resume will exponentially increase your job opportunities in fields like IT, finance, engineering, medicine, biotech, marketing, and sales, just to name a few hot fields where there is a great demand for bilingual talent in Japan. 2. Japanese Foreign Exchange Program If you're a college student, or even if you are not one at the moment, there are many opportunities to take part in a foreign exchange program and study for a year or even more at a university in Japan. Although it is technically possible to participate in these programs with no prior knowledge of Japanese, when submitting your application to take part in these programs, the screening committees will almost always give priority to persons who are already studying Japanese, as this reflects a deep and committed interest to Japan and its language and culture. Plus, your foreign exchange experience will be far more rewarding if you already have a basic grasp of Japanese, as this will increase your opportunities to communicate with native speakers tenfold. 3. Enhance Your Japan Travel Experience Are you thinking about traveling to Japan? Well, it's true that you can eek by as a traveler without knowing more than a word or two of Japanese. However, any foreign travel experience is greatly enhanced when you can actually communicate with the people who live there. Part of the fun of traveling to a foreign land is the challenge of communicating, whether it be simply ordering food at a restaurant, asking directions, or striking up a conversation at a bar
